Until 29 September 2024 nin the Pinacoteca Civica di Follonica you can visit the exhibition ‘Midnight’ by Nian and Bifido, inaugurated on 25 July, a journey into the hybrid dimension between Bifido’s photography and Nian’s painting. Curated by the Florentine Street Levels Gallery, the exhibition is the result of a collaborative project between the two artists, a painter and a photographer.

Their works come to life through the fusion of two different artistic techniques, painting and photography, to create works that go beyond the boundaries of traditional art forms, and to establish a unique and engaging dialogue with the viewer. After years of collaboration and artistic experimentation, Nian and Bifido realise in the highly poetic works of Midnight their research into identity and the relationship between the visible and invisible, focusing on dreams and everything that, although it has neither name nor form, often directs an individual’s existence.

The creative process begins with the photographic portraits taken by Bifido, shots that show the contingent, capturing the expressions and unique characteristics of the people posing in front of the lens. Then comes Nian, who inserts, extracts and enriches the images by painting an undeclared invisible, elements or animals that find a home in the portrayed faces, emerging thanks to the nocturnal dimension.

A play of shapes and superimpositions creates an evocative visual and symbolic effect, transforming the faces almost into masks: metaphors of the different facets and identities that coexist in the Ego. Midnight’s works accompany the viewer in a dreamlike, twilight atmosphere that allows the darker, less manifest sides of each individual to manifest freely. The unconscious reveals the raw material of the human being, which manifests itself in a form of primordial chaos in a state of perpetual creative power.
