Montorio is a small castle in the municipality of Sorano, a small village with a church. The village now hosts a farmhouse, which includes a wide territory and a game reserve, near which pheasants and other animals are bred.
The extraordinary but almost unknown history of Montorio extends from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age. The Ottieri, the founders of a little county encompassing Montorio, Castell’Ottieri and San Giovanni, managed to keep control of their little fiefdom at the boundary between Tuscany and the Papal State for over six centuries.
At the beginning of the XIX century the castle was transformed into a large agricultural estate run by the Selvi family with modern techniques.
The complex was enriched with a picturesque church with fine paintings.
