The museums in Scarlino have finally reopened. The Archaeological Museum of Portus Scabris (Maps) is located at Puntone di Scarlino, in via delle Collacchie 1, and collects the artifacts collected during the underwater excavations made on the occasion of the construction of the marina in the Portiglioni harbor, where in Roman times docks of the famous Portus Scabris, cited from ancient sources. The museum is housed in an early 1900s hydraulic toll booth overlooking the Padule di Scarlino, a protected natural area.
The "Riccardo Francovich" Territorial Documentation Center, on the other hand, is located in via della Rocca, in the main city center, and collects the archaeological finds that illustrate the history of the knoll on which the Rocca Pisana di Scarlino stands, from the Bronze Age to the 17th century. From Friday 17 July the Scarlino museums are open every day from 10 to 13 and from 16 to 19, while on Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 20 (the hours may vary).
