The Museum of San Mamiliano in Sovana presents itself with a new look

from 02/07/2020 to 31/08/2020

After the Covid-19 emergency, on Saturday 4 July the Museum of San Mamiliano finally reopens, located in Piazza del Pretorio in the ancient village of Sovana, which is part of the Archaeological City of Tufo di Sorano. There will not be an official inauguration but from Saturday it will be possible to visit this splendid museum overlooking one of the most beautiful and evocative squares of the Maremma. There are many novelties including a new installation, a new section dedicated to Lombard ceramics from the tombs of Villa Biagiola di Sovana, a series of very interesting finds from the Museum of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in the Orsini Fortress of Sorano.

In this way, the historical phase of the museum expands: from the Etruscan one to the early medieval phase following the fall of the Roman Empire. In addition, the lighting of the church crypt was installed and can therefore be visited. To make the museum live in a different way, two guided accompaniments are provided in the morning at 11 am and in the afternoon at 5 pm. There will continue to be the display of Roman coins (from the 5th century AD), which will have their own specific space. As regards compliance with the anti-contagion measures in the museum, a contingent entrance will be possible for a maximum of 10 visitors at a time, equipped with masks.

There will also be disinfectant gel and a transparent dividing panel has been installed at the ticket office for operator safety. The museum will be open for the month of July every day except Wednesdays from 10 to 13 and from 16 to 20. For the month of August the museum will be open every day at the usual times.
